The world might have been used to Henry Cavill playing the iconic role of Superman. However, once the star picked up his sword in Netflix’s The Witcher series, fans lost their minds. While the 40-year-old may no longer be a part of the series, his dueling days must not end up being left behind as well. After all, the actor’s tricks not only surprised his fans but also surprised a sword historian.

Back in 2020, the founder of Chicago’s Swordplay Guild was asked about his thoughts about Cavill’s efforts. To everyone’s surprise, he only had glowing compliments for the star.

Back in 2020, Polygon interviewed Gregory Mele via email about Henry Cavill’s swordplay on The Witcher. The guest was not only the founder of the Swordplay Guild in Chicago but also a sword historian. In his response, he stated, “It’s believable that he’s a fighter,” thanks to the training the actor underwent. The enthusiast also said that the fight scenes in the show were “reasonably realistic.

While Mele found a few things off about the accuracy of the sword itself, he claimed that he could “appreciate what they are trying to do” with the fight scenes. It even made Geralt of Rivia’s fighting “unusual and dynamic.” Given the compliments he received on his swordplay techniques, fans would certainly live seeing him in a role that puts them to use.
