"A sad taste"- Isabela Merced's Thoughtful Reaction on 'Madame Web's' Success Highlights the Plight of Those at Risk
Isabela Merced, Sydney Sweeney, and Dakota Johnson starred in one of the biggest comic book movie flops in history, with its failure double-crossing fans for the weak box office performance. Despite the anticipation surrounding Sony Pictures' release of Madame Web, its theatrical debut was as disappointing as it could get. While many pointed to internet meme culture as a key factor in its catastrophic downfall, beyond the actors involved, there was a certain group of people at greater risk, and Merced's heart particularly goes out to them.
Although many might have thought that those starring the film were at the highest risk, it turns out that may not be the case.

Isabela Merced recently appeared on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast to discuss her feelings after Madame Web's box office failure. While Horowitz described the experience as a temporary break from superstardom, Merced initially struggled to find the right words. However, she admitted that the situation left "a sad taste" in her mouth, recognizing that there were people who poured their hearts into the movie, hoping it could be their big break.
Merced initially shared that the team's group chat had been "interesting," reflecting on the flood of tweets and memes that emerged. Still, she felt it was important to acknowledge those she believed were at a greater risk. The actress admitted that she is fortunate to have other opportunities to fall back on, but she empathized with those who were not as lucky. Merced also pointed out that, while everyone had good intentions, perhaps someone did not fully grasp the assignment.
Merced, however, also disclosed she has been a little proud of Madame Web.

In her conversation with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Isabela Merced discussed the movie that many blamed for its failure on internet culture, including Emma Roberts. Merced, candid in her admissions, shared that all of her favorite stars have at least one "camp" movie, and perhaps Madame Web is hers. The 23-year-old also revealed a soft spot for "campy movies" like Catwoman, Flubber, and others.
In that context, Merced admitted that she feels a bit "proud" of Madame Web. She shared that after the movie’s flop, the team had a group chat where they could support each other, as there was not much left to do but laugh it off. Hence, if anything, Merced's unapologetic stance on Madame Web being what it is highlights the confidence and poise that comes with her rising superstardom, which she embodies effortlessly.
