A Reason Why Princess Lilibet’s US Citizenship Could Be in Trouble Due to Prince Harry

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may have left the royal frontiers, but their confrontations with conflicts have been nothing short of regal in its essence. Ever since they wrapped up their trip to Nigeria recently, the couple have been under round-the-clock scrutiny from the royal pundits and not even Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have been allowed a pass this time. However, the attention has drastically shifted from the Prince to the Princess and the nod of concern has befallen her citizenship status in the States.

The Duke and the Duchess have long left the UK soil to settle in the US. But it seems Princess Lilibet’s citizenship in the US could have been a matter of concern if it were not for Markle.

On this week’s episode of The Royal Record podcast on GB News, Melissa Chavin, who works for the Chavin Immigration Law Office, explained a scenario regarding Princess Lilibet in light of Prince Harry entering the US on an A1 Head of State Visa. Chavin revealed that Princess Lilibet would not be considered a US citizen if Meghan Markle had the same visa as the Duke.

Chavin elaborated that if the Duchess herself was not a US Citizen and held the A1 head of state spousal visa like the Prince, Princess Lilibet’s US Citizenship could have been in trouble. The Princess would be an “unusual exception to the rule that anyone born in the United States is a US citizen”, said Chavin. Although the likelihood of such a situation is slim, Prince Harry’s bombshell revelations in Spare have fueled a widespread analysis of ulterior scenarios.

Since Markle and Prince Harry relocated to the U.S., they have made every effort to keep their children out of the spotlight. However, recently, there has been a surge of attention to royal toddlers, leading some to speculate that they could play a key role in enhancing the Sussex brand.

In May, royal commentator Tom Quinn explained to The Mirror how Prince Archie, a five-year-old, and Princess Lilibet, who recently celebrated her third birthday, could potentially enhance the Sussex brand in the future. He suggested that as proud parents, it may not be long before the Sussexes bring their children on their tours. When that day comes, Quinn reasoned, they will attract larger crowds.

He also mentioned that “Meghan is actually aware” that a royal baby draws far more attention than regular parents on tour. Consequently, the Duchess might consider including their children on future quasi-royal tours. While the plausibility of this scenario remains to be seen, at least Princess Lilibet’s US citizenship will not be at stake like the far-fetched assumptions.
