Ever since Marvel swooped in and took over the entertainment world, audiences have been treated to all sorts of storylines, visuals, and genres that all come together across its cinematic universe. And with the expansion of the multiverse saga, the studio is only pushing its limits, going far beyond just the usual explosions and epic battles that you can practically smell in every superhero movie. And it looks like director Ryan Coogler has something a little different in mind for Black Panther's genre and tone too.

Ryan Coogler is reportedly considering a horror, supernatural route for Black Panther 3. "Compared to the previous films, Ryan Coogler is interested in leaning into a more horror/supernatural/thriller tone for this film,” said Alex Perez, writer for @MyCosmicCircus, during a recent Q&A. This is just one of the many rumors that have surfaced since the MCU confirmed in December 2024 that Black Panther 3 is in the works.

There were also talks about the makers allegedly trying to recast the part of T’Challa. However, in an interview with ComicBook, the Black Panther 3 producer, Nate Moore, made it clear that those recasting rumors are not true. Now whether or not the new report about Coogler’s plans for Black Panther 3 is on point, fans are definitely on board for the shift in tone for the MCU movie.

It almost feels like fans have been waiting forever for the Black Panther franchise to dive into the horror side of things.

Fans love the idea of Black Panther being horror-adjacent

This will not be the first time the MCU leans into horror. From Scarlet Witch’s spine-chilling murder spree to Willem Dafoe’s creepy turn as Norman Osborn, Marvel has already dipped its toes into the genre. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness also leaned into horror by using classic tropes to get that eerie vibe across. Fans loved it. And it looks like they are just as excited for Black Panther to take a similar horror-supernatural route.

As soon as fans caught wind of Ryan Coogler’s vision, many could not help but mention the Doctor Strange movie.
