A Major Shift From Henry Cavill, David Corenswet’s 'Superman' and DCU to Get More in Line With 'Star Wars', Claims Report
It is a sure bet that the Superman fandom will be split right down the middle by the time James Gunn’s 2025 movie hits the screen. Many Henry Cavill loyalists are already anxious about what changes the DCU will bring to the table for Superman’s character. Meanwhile, those who never warmed to the darker version of the hero are excited about Gunn’s fresh approach. Nonetheless, it looks like both sides of the fandom should brace themselves for a major shock.
An insider recently revealed that the 2025 Superman will be nothing like the earlier versions of the titular character, especially not Cavill’s.

David Richtman recently made some intriguing claims about David Corenswet’s take on Superman, according to ComicBookMovie.com. Speaking about the filmmaker’s vision, Richtman said he has heard that Superman is "fantastic" and described it as "a complete shift to hardcore sci-fi and fantasy, the exact opposite of Man of Steel." He also mentioned that the upcoming movie is set in a world that is very different from the DCEU.
The DCU will unfold across various projects set in different timelines, rather than sticking to just the present day. This means it will be "more in line with the approach of Star Wars than Marvel". The studio is reportedly aiming to build a rich history for the existing world rather than starting from square one like Warner Bros. did with the DCEU. However, these claims have not been officially confirmed by anyone involved with the 2025 Superman. But there is one thing that has been confirmed.
The upcoming Superman version will hearken to its classic roots. This was made apparent when some behind-the-scenes images made their way onto the web.

Earlier this year, MyTimeToShineHello took to X to drop some fresh updates from the upcoming Superman film. Their tweet included a few images of David Corenswet in his costume, along with the trunks. The trunks have been a crucial part of Superman's costume since the 1930s and were originally worn by bodybuilders and athletes to showcase their strength.
Although Superman’s look evolved over time, Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh kept the trunks in their costumes. Henry Cavill's was the first Superman movie that ditched the trunks. But now, the trunks are back with the new Superman, and fans do not seem to be exactly happy about it. Nonetheless, it is clear that the DCU is fully moving away from any remnants of Henry Cavill and Zack Snyder’s Superman.
