Meghan Markle, since resigning as a senior royal, has made many claims regarding the royal family and their functioning. More specifically, the Duchess has given not just an interview with Oprah Winfrey but also released a two-part Netflix documentary. The cherry on top of this deal is the memoir released by her husband, titled Spare. Despite the intensity of the claims made, Markle has never truly received the benefit of the doubt.

As the clock strikes more than three years since the infamous Oprah interview, the reason behind why Markle's claims have often been met with angry rebuke becomes clear.

The Oprah Winfrey interview with the Sussexes marked the first of many things. From Meghan Markle claiming that the British royals had a racist vein to stating that her passport, keys, and more such necessities were taken away from her. While the racism claim has ensued a never-ending debate, the claims about her passport being taken away have been rebuked by The Sun. The publication has rebutted this claim with the fact that the Duchess of Sussex had been on at least thirteen foreign trips during her royal tenure.

Markle claimed "that was the last time, until we came here, that I saw my passport," with 'that' being the time she joined the royal family. The Duchess emphasized how this took away from her freedom, however, in reality, the passports of royal family members are usually taken away in order to keep them safe. Moreover, The Sun also questioned the credibility of her statement, sighting how it would have been impossible for her to board planes without her passport.

To further make matters worse for the Duchess, the publication highlighted her and Prince Harry's famous trip to George Clooney's Lake Como House.

Meghan Markle, ever since she entered the royal clan, became the top headline. However, this was not a coincidence, as both the Duke and Duchess had achieved this status through smart and subtle media-savvy strategies. The most memorable of which was the trip Markle and Prince Harry took to Amal and George Clooney's Lake Como House, which made way for an everlasting friendship. Although iconic then, it has come to bite them back to curtsy of the no-passport claims that the Duchess had made.

Apart from their getaway to Italy, the couple had made multiple foreign trips that were highly publicized. While some of the trips were work-related, plenty included the Duke and Duchess taking time off work. With such facts backed by news to reubutal Markle's claim, her case has weakened further.
