But it was her on-screen dad, Dr. Martin Brenner, portrayed by Matthew Modine, who initially lured the young heroine into the dark abyss of Stranger Things and an even stranger destiny. Now, the tables have turned, and Modine is taking a cue from Brown’s playbook, entering the multiverse of Monsterverse to inject an extra dose of stranger star power to launch a new monstrous chapter.

According to a recent report by Deadline, Matthew Modine is resurrecting a cinematic trajectory previously tapped by his favorite lab rat, Millie Bobby Brown, with a deal closed with Legendary for the next feature film of Monsterverse franchise. As the news broke out, Modine took to X, sharing the scoop to express his excitement in teaming up with the starry cast of the forthcoming Monsterverse film. “I can’t wait to get to work on this next phase of [Monsterverse],” the actor wrote.
As per the outlet, Modine joins Dan Stevens, who is poised to reprise his role as Trapper. Also joining them are Kaitlyn Dever, Jack OÇonnell, and Delroy Lindo. Grant Sputore directs the upcoming untitled project and Dave Callaham is said to have written the most recent draft for it. The project will bring to the fold several human characters with Godzilla and Kong as they face off against a combating doomsday.

However, according to quite a few outlets, Modine will reportedly take on the role of a high-ranking general.

Except for that, the specifics are extremely tight-lipped. Filming for the upcoming Monsteverse movie is due to start this April in Australia. The project is scheduled for a 2027 release on March 26, following suit of the franchise's spring release trajectory. Though fans might have to wait a bit to find out more details on it, for now, the Monsterverse is reeking of Upside Down star power, and surely something monstrous is about to be unleashed.
