While the film has earned high praise from Hollywood elites, Gomez recently caught Meryl Streep’s attention, earning awe and admiration for her acting chops.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Meryl Streep hosted a star-studded screening of Emilia Pérez this Wednesday at the San Vicente Bungalows in Los Angeles. The screening was followed by a Q&A session with Selena Gomez when Streep wanted in on her approach to the film. Gomez did not really play by a particular playbook for it but revealed the first scene she shot was the ending. “It was just a beautiful, smudged, sensual, incredible performance,” Streep said, reflecting on her screen time.
Just as Gomez was recovering from the cascade of compliments from one of Tinseltown’s biggest stars, Streep recommended the track, ‘Mi Camino.’ “And that song, I want to be myself…,” the three-time Oscar-winner added. Gomez shared a bit of fun trivia, revealing that her character was originally set to perform another track. However, Jacques Audiard felt the initial track did not quite suit her after meeting her. She recalls ‘Mi Camino’ as something rather “special,” crafter with her in mind.
Gomez’s insights offered the much-needed sneak peek at this early Oscar contender, and the audience no longer needs to wait to watch it because Netflix has officially added the film to its catalog.
Netflix rolls out the red carpet for Emilia Pérez starring Selena Gomez
Netflix recently added this year’s biggest Oscar rival, Emilia Pérez, to its content library on November 13. The musical crime comedy that follows Jacques Audiard’s opera of the same name, stars Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz, Mark Ivanir, and Édgar Ramírez. The film premiered on May 18, this year at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, earning a quick spot in the race for the Palme d’Or.

As the movie won the Jury Prize, with its female ensemble bagging the Best Actress award, Netflix reportedly outbid multiple studios for tapping the film. The streamer secured the distribution rights for $8 million, and now, with Hollywood icons divulging the torrent of tributes for the film’s vision and the performer’s skills, all that remains to be seen is whether the Academy rolls out the red carpet as glowingly for Emilia Pérez as the streaming mogul, and Tinseltown did.
