Netflix Icon Becomes Matt Reeves’ Favorite Harley Quinn, Following Lady Gaga Bombing With ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ Bugs Lukewarm
Matt Reeves introduced an entirely new version of Gotham City- darker than anything audiences had ever seen before. Reeves' take has been such a success, and the story so rich with detail that sequels and spinoffs were immediately lined up. With that, more of Batman’s rogues and allies are also about to emerge in the universe. And it seems Reeves may just have picked someone for a well-known role in this realm.
Just after Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn ended up with mixed reception in Joker: Folie à Deux, a Netflix sensation landed on the shortlist to bring the character to life next in the DCU.

If there is one breakout star from Netflix who keeps showing up on everyone's feeds, it is Victoria Pedretti, known for her roles in The Haunting of Hill House, its sequel, and the thriller series You. Recently, a rumor has been floating on the web that says Pedretti is in the running to play Harley Quinn in an upcoming Batverse project of Matt Reeves. This resurfaced rumor comes two years after Giant Freakin Robot reported that the actress could be part of the Arkham Asylum series and the Batman sequels.
This might actually be a good decision as Pedretti can bring a fresh take to Harley Quinn, aiming for a more grounded version of the character than what fans have seen in the franchise. There is even talk of her possibly forming a relationship with Barry Keoghan’s Joker along the way in Batman 2. Either way, this would definitely mark a change from the Harley Quinn we saw in Joker: Folie à Deux.
Despite the mixed reception of Lady Gaga’s Quinn, Joker: Folie à Deux brought something fresh to the character that no other project did.

Before Harley Quinn fully branched out on her own in the DC universe, she was known as the Joker's puppet in Batman: The Animated Series. From there, she found her role in the comics as a jester and sidekick to the Clown Prince of Crime. Eventually, she cut the strings, a theme that modern comics, the Harley Quinn cartoon, and Margot Robbie's live-action portrayal all ran within DC films. But Joker: Folie à Deux gave Quinn a richer backstory, making her more than just the Joker’s sidekick.
Lady Gaga's Harley is not dazzled by Joker’s words or stays under his thumb. This Harley acts on her own terms, is in charge of her destiny, and fully owns her agency. And this is not something fans get to see often. With Gaga's character in the rearview mirror, it is yet to be seen what Victoria Pedretti could bring to the table should she really be cast as Harley Quinn.
