The screens of Hollywood lay bare until a visual artist in the form of a director paints it all over with their vision and palette understanding of a story. Among the many notable talents who have their own style, Guy Ritchie stands as one with his unique blend of unexpected twists, non-linear storytelling, seedy individuals, and unorthodox humor. At a time when the 55-year-old looks at unrolling his World War II with Henry Cavill as the lead in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, he has captured one of the actor’s home bases.

Riding on the very opposite of the keyword that headlines his next outing, the director quite easily left his mark on streaming.

Famed for stylized action sequences, brilliant pacing, dark humor, snappy dialogues, and, above all, unique characters, Guy Ritchie made a quick place for his 2019 movie The Gentlemen. With its popularity not letting go of him anytime soon, he returned with an eight-episode series spin-off of the same name, premiering it on Netflix on March 7, 2024. Remarkably, as per the latest Luminate watch-time report by Variety, the heist drama has clocked over 1.3 billion minutes during its second week.

The numbers came despite the show losing close to 30% of its original viewership in the first week. Additionally, the numbers came even as Netflix’s own 3 Body Problem garnered over 62.6 million minutes of view-time in only its first day of release, partly also due to its connection and showdown with HBO’s The Game of Thrones universe. Regardless, The Gentlemen gave Guy Ritchie a solid chokehold on the audience ahead of him, returning to the big screens with Henry Cavill in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

Scheduled for April 19, 2024, Guy Ritchie will probably leave no holds barred in bringing to life the story of the Winston Churchill-birthed special operations unit from the second World War. Moreover, to add even further hype, a recent promotional from the movie dropped and featured Henry Cavill and Alan Ritchson engaging in a dysfunctional brotherhood, adding a layer of humor and depth to a movie already filled with unconventionality.

Prominently featured in its trailers, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare had Henry Cavill showcase occult ruggedness. From a twirly mustache, unkempt hair, buffed-up physique, and the massive girth of his biceps holding out a teacup, the shy glimpses have already laid bare the prospect of witnessing a never-before-seen side of the former The Witcher actor.
