Meghan Markle Starrer ‘Suits’ Claimed the Historical Top Spot on the Streaming Charts, Surpassing the Popularity of ‘One Piece’

It has been four years since the popular legal drama series Suits, starring Meghan Markle, departed from its dedicated fanbase. Directed by Aaron Korsh, the American TV series started falling apart after two of its major leads, Markle and Patrick J. Adams left the show hanging following the seventh season. However, for quite some time, the speculations about Suits reboot of the popular series have been doing the rounds. 

After Adams shared a string of Instagram posts featuring the Suits cast, the rumors started buzzing even louder. This buzz benefited the show tremendously, as fans across the world started streaming the show on Netflix, making it claim a historical top spot on streaming charts.

Adams, who played the role of Michael Ross, posted a series of behind-the-scenes pictures on Instagram out of Nostalgia. However, his cryptic captions made fans assume that the 42-year-old actor gave a teaser for the Suits reboot. This created a storm on social media, ultimately leading fans to revisit the critically acclaimed series on Netflix. This led to Suits achieving a historical milestone in the Nielsen streaming chart. The show claimed a top spot on Nielsen’s list for twelve consecutive weeks, garnering the most amount of viewership.

As per the week of September 4-10, the show amassed a viewership of 2,359 million minutes on Netflix and Peacock, even outshining the 2023 Netflix blockbuster, One Piece. Directed by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, One Piece held the third spot in the rankings with a whopping 1,389 million minutes of viewership. Meanwhile, another Netflix show, the Virgin River, claimed the second spot.

Given the streaming chart, it is safe to say that Netflix is going strong with its buzz-generating shows. However, the recent report of a hike in its subscription rates could result in a setback for the streaming platform.

Whether it was the continuous deletion of popular shows and movies from the platform or the constant hike in membership rates, Netflix received a lot of heat from its user base. Recently, another report from The Wall Street Journal triggered another storm on the Internet. As per the report, Netflix will increase its membership rates following the closure of SAG-AFTRA strikes. This caused an online outrage among fans and gave them the motivation to cancel the streaming platform.
