Netflix has played a huge role in Meghan Markle’s career. It was her Netflix documentary with Prince Harry that helped them carve out a new profile outside of the royal family. It was also through the streaming platform that her most popular show before becoming a Duchess, Suits, got a second life- enough to convince the creators to spin off a new series. And now, it seems Netflix will be the one to help Markle make her comeback in the lifestyle space as well, after what has been a reportedly quiet stretch for them in Hollywood lately.

Markle’s upcoming Netflix show is closer to release than one might think, which also suggests that her brand launch is just around the corner.

Meghan Markle has been working on the launch of her brand, American Riviera Orchard, for months since first teasing it on Instagram. However, the launch has only seen delays, so far. Before the brand’s debut, the Duchess filmed a cookery TV series for Netflix in California during April and May. Recently, the Daily Mail reported that the unnamed show is going to premiere early next year, and its debut will also mark the launch of the American Riviera Orchard brand, Markle’s lifestyle venture.

Netflix is handling the merchandising for American Riviera Orchard. As per Daily Mail, Markle could soon be showing up in two mega-malls in Dallas, Texas, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as part of the Netflix House initiative. Next year, Netflix also plans to unveil some "perfect homes" to showcase the brand, with even more shops. But before everything can launch, Markle will need to overcome a few hurdles.

Meghan Markle’s brand, American Riviera Orchard, has run into a few trademark issues for three major reasons.

Meghan Markle's mountain of trademark issues

The main problem with American Riviera Orchard’s trademark filing is the name itself. Last week, rival lifestyle brand Harry & David lodged a protest, arguing that the name is too similar to its Royal Riviera product line. But that is not the only issue- another business in Santa Barbara is already using the term "American Riviera" for a $34.95 candle.

The USPTO has rejected the trademark application, stating that geographic locations, including the California coast’s nickname "American Riviera," cannot be trademarked. Additionally, the brand’s logo and product listing did not meet the necessary trademarking standards either. Now, only time will tell if these issues can be resolved before the anticipated brand and Netflix show launch next year.
