Matthew Perry’s Fame on ‘Friends’ Came at a Cost, Revealed Actor in His Memoir
If one celebrity matches Prince Harry and his honest confession energy, it is Matthew Perry from the super-hit sitcom Friends. While the Duke’s confessions came after the royal drama in his memoir, Perry’s came years after the aftermath of the royal success of the American sitcom. Not only did the on-screen Chandler strike the right cord with his fans, but also reigned as the goofiest and most supportive buddy one could ask for. Following the fame, the actor penned down Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing in 2022, almost 18 years after the sitcom aired its last episode.
In one such anecdote from his novel, Perry recounted how the popularity and success of the Warner Bros. series came at a cost.

Perry had a rough time dealing with relationship dynamics throughout his time on the sitcom. Be it navigating his crush on Jennifer Aniston or losing out on a possibly great relationship with Julia Roberts, the actor confessed to all of them honestly. In one such anecdote of a strained relationship, the Canadian-American actor talked about how his success on the sitcom came at the cost of his friendship with Craig Bierko. Two years into the ten-season series, Bierko finally called back Perry saying, “We need to talk.”
This was after The Ron Clark Story actor had relentlessly tried contacting his best friend. Bierko confessed to being extremely jealous of the success of the show. He was bitter because Perry got “rich and famous” from a show that The Scary Movie 4 actor was supposed to do, but he stepped down to make way for Perry. While the 17 Again tried making amends to their friendship, it fizzled out.
Seems like Chandler’s Perry did not share a great relationship with both his on-screen and off-screen best friends.

The rift between The Whole Nine Yards actor and his best friend came as a result of professional and personal lives being blurred. They were not able to keep differences of different worlds apart. But in another set of events, it was the Fools Rush In actor’s turn to be bitter. In a play of maybe karma, or just life, his on-screen best friend Joey, played by Matt LeBlanc, bagged a sequel separate from the rest of the cast.
Citing it as being hurt, the author of Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing was mildly jealous and a bit hurt over how LeBlanc allegedly “went behind their backs” to bag the role in Joey. Albeit being a lackluster, their relationship bore the brunt.
