While Jason Bateman had certainly thought it fit, it would not have been any less of a shocker for him to watch the Saving Private Ryan and Academy Award winning, Matt Damon approach him and express his confidence in pulling off the Bateman's cunning character from the Arrested Development series. "He was a huge fan of Arrested Development" he revealed to Conan O'Brien on Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend. "And he was saying 'You know, I really think I could play, because I hear you guys are doing a movie", Bateman recalled Matt Damon's words.

When asked how he himself thinks someone foreign to him could fill in the shoes of the weighted Micheal Bluth, Bateman says he had thought back to the Arrested Development in-series movie that would be orchestrated in the show, and since the cast were not playing characters who were actors in profession, it would only be fair for a willing Matt Damon to have pull off the Bluth family member playing the series' dad.
While Arrested Development is close to being hoarded in with the vintages of the season, Bateman stays cemented in his prowess in acting, with an end to his demand not in sight.
Jason Bateman seems to know he must carry on
With his recent success as Marty Byrde in Primetime Emmy winning Ozark, Jason Bateman seems to have taken a 180 from his roles as cunning American men to a downright villainous persona in his most recent Carry-On. Portraying the Traveler in the film, who plans on killing a politician while on plane with said victim, and with his established prowess through being a well seasoned representative of Hollywood silver-screen, Bateman has successfully convinced the audience to ask for more of such roles from the actor.
