“I’m not dismissing it…” – Greta Gerwig Opens Up on a ‘Barbie’ Sequel and Netflix’s Narnia Movies
The 96th Academy Awards came to a curtain closure with Oppenheimer walking out as the lead victor with seven wins out of thirteen nominations even as its twin release, Barbie, despite its only one Oscar win, ruled in prevalence. From Ryan Gosling spreading the fervor with his ‘I’m Just Ken’ performance to America Ferrera handing out pink gift bags to the attendees, the impact of Greta Gerwig on mainstream pop culture as well as on the cinemas overall shone in prominence.
Yet, the director left no time to waste as she offered quick updates on a pink sequel while satiating curiosity around her Narnia Netflix inroads.

Greta Gerwig etched history as she became the sole female director to cross $1 billion at the box office. Additionally, her role in shaping a fourth-wall-breaking-doll into a story about female prejudice and the casualties rained down by patriarchy made her one of the most acclaimed filmmakers. Despite such benchmarks, why little to no information about a Barbie sequel has come forth found an answer from Greta Gerwig. In talks with Deadline, she revealed not “feeling” the need for one until recently.
“I’m not dismissing it, I want to do it,” the director spilled the beans. However, for a Barbie sequel, Greta Gerwig will have to pull a lot of strings, starting from Warner Bros. Studios to Mattel. Furthermore, she will also have to persuade Margot Robbie, who not very long ago brushed off the idea of a part two. Thereafter, along with onboarding the producers, the Little Women director will also have to ensure living up to or even beyond the repute of the current installment.
Marking another occupancy in her slot also lies her tryst with Netflix, where she has to live up to another acclaim.

In the same chat, Greta Gerwig also opened up on returning to London right after the Oscars to helm her The Chronicles of Narnia project at Netflix. Currently in its very early stages of pre-production, the upcoming reboot will have the director revisit The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe novel from C.S. Lewis, while also living up to the expectations and legacy left behind by the 2005 flick based on the same as well as its sequels.
With shy details about the project currently known, Gerwig’s adaptation of the acclaimed franchise for Netflix will be “bigger and bolder” as claimed by Netflix’s CEO, Ted Sarandos. Additionally, the filmmaker may also lay an emphasis on stories and parts of the lore yet unexplored including chapters that were skipped in the Disney and 20th Century Studios adaptations.
