How 22-Year-Old Freya Allan Is Leading as the Face of Two Big Franchises Spanning Netflix and ‘The Planet of the Apes’
In Hollywood, where about 600 projects see the light of the day every year, staying at the top of the charts needs grueling commitment. A lot of what the project becomes lies in the hands of the writers and directors as much as it lies upon its lead cast. Etching out a name for themselves for being the perfect fit for the role, the likes of Henry Cavill, Robert Downey Jr., and Matthew Perry stand out to this date. Aiming to spin her tale is Cavill’s 22-year-old The Witcher co-star, Freya Allan.
The young actress is now among the faces with the most prominent roles in two of 2024’s biggest upcoming and anticipated projects.

When Netflix’s home-grown Game of Thrones ‘competitor’, The Witcher is passing through a sea of whirlwind reviews and criticisms, its upcoming season four looks to mend it with Allan as the lead. The previous season laid the groundwork for bringing the actress’ character, Ciri, close with the other two leads, Geralt and Yennefer to help her usher in the forthcoming season. Meanwhile, the British actress also landed fresh in the latest trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, as the lead human character.
Coincidentally, both of her franchises are aiming at fresh ground. While The Witcher is preparing for a new Geralt on the scene, the 20th Century Studios’ outing is also starting with a new plot. The upcoming 2024 movie focuses on Allan’s character, Mae, being humanity’s lead alongside the ape protagonist, Noa. Both of the franchises are continuations of their previous storylines. Netflix shall pick up right after its last season while the Apes franchise will be set a few years after 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes.
Amid this leading role for Freya Allan, the SAG-AFTRA strikes still blow a hole in the form of potential delays, especially on the Netflix side of things.

Hollywood reels from massive delays owing to the months-long SAG-AFTRA strikes. Tent-pole projects from Marvel like Deadpool 3 and Netflix’s Stranger Things and The Witcher are among the biggest victims. Fortunately, Allan’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes had much of its work done before the full blow of the strikes and thus aims to land on May 24, 2024. However, despite the actress securing her big-screen appearance, her Netflix outing is in troubled waters.
Marred by poor reception, the Netflix fantasy also looks at an indefinite delay. Despite the show setting up Allan’s Ciri and Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer as the two powerful women to lead the next season, nothing has moved ahead. Although writing may resume now that the WGA strikes are agreed over. Yet, for the actors to return, the streaming giant must reach an interim resolution on the strikes soon.
