Fans Flood X With Mixed Reactions as Clyde Phillips Announces ‘Dexter’ Sequel Series’ Release Schedule
There is no denying that the Dexter universe is a huge cash cow, and fans are clearly hungry for more stories set in this world. This is pretty much the main reason why they have decided to go back on Dexter’s fate after the finale of Dexter: New Blood. It turns out, the anti-hero/villain protagonist is not really dead, and now he is making a comeback with yet another sequel, Dexter: Resurrection, which just got its filming and release dates locked in.
Clyde Phillips recently told Discussing Film that Dexter: Resurrection will begin production in January 2025. He also confirmed that the sequel will premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime next summer, by June. It will not be a reboot or redo of the original show, though. Instead, everything will fall into Dexter’s original timeline, giving fans a chance to see even more of his life.

The news about Dexter: Resurrection first broke during the San Diego Comic-Con when Michael C. Hall showed up unexpectedly with other stars from Dexter: Original Sin. Hall, who famously portrayed Dexter, announced that he would d be returning as the voice inside Dexter’s head for the series. This news left fans a little confused, especially since they were led to believe Dexter met his end at the hands of his son, Harrison, in the Dexter: New Blood finale. As expected, fans flooded X with mixed reactions with the sequel announcement as well.
While some were excited for Dexter: Resurrection, others could not quite make sense of where the franchise was headed.
Fans are not sure what to make of the upcoming Dexter: Resurrection
Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan has always been the lovable anti-hero, but by the end of Dexter: New Blood, he was teetering on the edge of full-blown villainy- and that could make for some really interesting drama. Even so, fans are calling out the franchise for constantly finding ways to bring Hall back, even though Clyde Phillips had already made it clear back in 2022 that Dexter was definitely dead.
Many fans, however, were truly excited by the announcement and are looking forward to watching the sequel.

Earlier this year, Hall told Variety that Dexter: Resurrection would pick up right after the events of Dexter: New Blood, although he kept things pretty mysterious. The question now is whether fans will buy into this new direction or if they will think it is just stretching the story a little too far. Either way, they are definitely in for another round of dark, twisted fun with C. Hall in Dexter: Resurrection.
