Friends has to be one of the best sitcoms of all time. From its humble beginnings back in 1994, the show is still watched nearly two decades later. From Rachel Green’s character growth to Monica’s OCD, the show took its viewers on an emotional rollercoaster. And with the whole world watching, it is no surprise that most fans know a lot about the show’s trivia. But there are a few facts that they might have missed.

While most of the viewers will never forget the lyrics of the Friends theme song, one fun fact is that it was not the show’s first pick. As per a 2019 interview with NME, initially, ‘Shiny Happy People’ by R.E.M. was chosen to be the theme song of Friends. But thankfully, the band turned down the project. But if things had played out differently, fans would not have the iconic ‘I’ll Be There For You’ by The Rembrandts.

After the falling through with the R.E.M. song, a producer from the show managed to bring in The Rembrandts and gave fans a theme song that will never be forgotten. While the producers were sad about missing out on R.E.M., that feeling could not have lasted too long considering what a perfect fit the new theme song was.

That is not the end of the surprises. Another fun fact from the series is about the creation of the theme song itself, and after the surprising regrets that were revealed, you will definitely find yourself stunned.

Who wrote the theme song?

While it has never been surprising for the creators of a show to help artists come up with their theme song, this one went a little differently. After Kevin Bright managed the get the band on board for the song, The Rembrandts only ended up writing maybe half of it.

That was because they were not working on it alone. Instead, Michael Skloff and Allee Willis, who were on the show’s musical team, co-wrote the song along with the band. They did it to make sure that the song would suit the show without any issues. They also managed to give the world a song that will always be thought of when anyone spends time with the people who love them.
