Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie, who helmed the major roles of Ken and Barbie, respectively, for the major part of the movie, sold the crowd out. The duo’s stellar performance made Barbie a loveable comedy drama. However, behind the scenes, while shooting for the movie and on the sets of Barbie Land, Ncuti Gatwa felt a sense of “nervousness”. In an interview with Elle, Gatwa opened up on his anxiety while filming for the movie with Gosling.
Owing to his anxiety, Gatwa could hardly speak and usually kept to himself for the first month of the movie’s shooting. However, later on, he took on a more light-hearted approach and opened up on working with Ryan Gosling. The actor joked that at one point he was so engrossed in Gosling that it seemed as if he fell over! Speaking of an incident when Gosling turned around and looked at him, the 30-year-old actor described it as feeling as if he had “drowned in his eyes.”
Barbie recently became the highest-earning movie for Warner Bros. and is still continuing to mint at the box office. Meanwhile, Ncuti Gatwa has season four of Sex Education right above his head.
