Timothée Chalamet is about to return to the limelight with his upcoming movie with Josh Safdie. This also means that the internet will once again get flooded with a veritable treasure trove of his amateur rap career videos from high school. Chalamet, who once went by the name Timmy Tim in some of the most closely-guarded rap circles, will soon find himself in familiar territory again- only this time, he will be sharing the screen with a popular rapper.

Josh Safdie’s upcoming film Marty Supreme has just added a Grammy-winning rapper to the cast, who will make his acting debut with Timothée Chalamet right by his side.

Timothée Chalamet is leading the star-studded cast of Josh Safdie’s A24 feature Marty Supreme, which also includes Gwyneth Paltrow, who will make her comeback to the screen after five years. Recently, the film also roped in the ‘See You Again’ rapper, Tyler, The Creator, for an undisclosed role. The rapper will make his film debut with Marty Supreme, which is said to center on a professional ping pong player, likely loosely inspired by the life of Marty Reisman.

While Tyler, The Creator is known as a multihyphenate, having worked as a recording artist, songwriter, producer, director, designer, and more, his film work is not as developed. However, he did co-create and star in the cult TV show Loiter Squad on Adult Swim with his Odd Future cohorts, as well as the Adult Swim animated show The Jellies! and the Viceland docuseries Nuts + Bolts. As for Chalamet, even though his rap career did not take off, save for his Saturday Night Live sketches of musicians, it eventually helped his acting career.

Many of Timothée Chalamet’s fans are still unaware that the star had an alter ego named Lil’ Timmy Tim. It was not until after his breakthrough role in Call Me By Your Name that fans uncovered his hip-hop past- and soon videos of him rapping went viral. Ironically, those very videos played a part in landing him one of the biggest roles of his career- Wonka- which became the 8th highest-grosser last year.

The director, Paul King, had already seen enough to know Chalamet could sing and dance, crediting the rap videos for sealing the deal. “It was a straight offer because he’s great, and he was the only person in my mind who could do it,” the filmmaker told Rolling Stone. While any further details of Marty Supreme are under wraps, it will be interesting to see how Chalamet’s collaboration with Tyler, The Creator, plays out.
