Jonathan Bailey and Ariana Grande are known for two very different things. While Grande is famous for her pop music, Bailey is best known for his role in Bridgerton. However, that has not stopped the undeniable on-screen chemistry between them. In fact, their connection was clear long before the musical, Wicked, even hit the big screens. Last year, the two were seen sitting together at Wimbledon, and social media went wild over their chemistry. Now, finally, the real reason behind their bond has come to light. 

Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey recently opened up about their theater backgrounds and how it helped them connect. 

In an interview with PEOPLE, both Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey got candid about their chemistry in Wicked. They revealed that their shared love for theater was a big part of the bond they formed on set. "I feel like we were both very theater children in the room,” said Grande, while explaining how that helped them become the “giggliest pair” in the room. Bailey then jokingly added that their theater backgrounds gave their chemistry a certain "fizz". 

Grande started her theater career at 15 when she was cast in the musical Thirteen. On the other hand, across the pond, Bailey took his first steps into the world of acting with the Royal Shakespeare Company when he was a child. However, not many people know that the Netflix show Bridgerton, for which Bailey is best known, has played a huge role in his Wicked part.

Bailey’s commitment to the magical world of Wicked became clear during his time learning the choreography on the Bridgerton set.

Both Bridgerton season 3 and Wicked began filming in 2022, and since Jonathan Bailey was involved in both projects, he had to juggle his schedule to manage the roles. In an interview with PEOPLE, Ariana Grande revealed that Bailey was rehearsing his dance numbers almost non-stop. The British actor bounced between the two sets and even used his off days to practice.

Grande went on to share that some of the dance crew were allowed to visit him on the Bridgerton set to watch him work. Even the Bridgerton team gave their approval for a few Wicked choreographers to visit him so he could continue practicing. Nonetheless, all that hard work paid off and fans even claimed Bailey to have overshadowed his co-stars as Fiyero in Wicked.
