The Surprising Story Behind Why Kanye West Always Called Yeezy The “Lamborghini of shoes”
In the enigmatic world of fashion, every iconic brand has a story, and Kanye West, with his brand, Yeezy, has been no exception. While the brand has run into trouble in the past owing to the creator’s not-so-savory statements, they are still extremely sought after. However, ever since the brand’s debut launch back in 2009, Ye has referred to his line as the “Lamborghini of shoes.”
Although the moniker seems to have stuck and lived up to his expectations, the reason why he labeled his shoes was rather surprising. In an interview a few years ago, Kanye West revealed a narrative that went beyond the stitches and soles.

Back in 2019, Kanye West sat down with Forbes magazine to talk about his Yeezy empire. While he had already made millions with his music, the rapper’s creativity knew no bounds. In the interview, the 46-year-old ended up shining a light on his successful Adidas collaboration. However, it was where he took his inspiration from that garnered attention. He revealed that he drew inspiration from the classic anime film, Akira, and Lamborghinis.
The ‘Donda’ artist said that he saw a “white Lamborghini Countach.” He recalled that it was at an auto show with his father. That is when he got “obsessed with this car as a child.” However, he ended the conversation by saying that “there’s a little bit of Lamborghini in everything” he does. In fact, each of his designs even have a varying degree of difference in their looks.
His designs have been called sleek and are eagerly sought after. However, that did not stop Adidas from severing its ties with him after another controversial bout.

Kanye West initially launched his brand, Yeezy, with Nike back in 2009. However, just 4 years later, he took the brand to Adidas, as he was unhappy with the royalties he was receiving. After that, for nearly a decade, their partnership seemed to flourish. That was until the rapper started acting out and making statements that baffled the world.
While the sportswear manufacturer cut ties with Kanye West, they still made bank on his products. After various fan suggestions, Adidas decided to release the shoes. They released Yeezy sneakers that were left over from the partnership and ended up making $437 million from it. A year after the deal falloff, it seems like Ye’s fans are still willing to take every bit of what the rapper has to offer.
