Selena Gomez is no rookie when it comes to the screen. But when she added the musical crime comedy Emilia Pérez to her résumé, fans totally lost it. Gomez plays the lead character’s wife, and recently, Variety did not hold back, raving about “standout moments,” especially in the song ‘El Camino.’ And considering the Academy’s tendency to nominate two supporting actresses from the same film about 33% of the time, Gomez could be up for an Oscar nod.

Zoe Saldana, who also stars in the film, could either campaign as lead or join Gomez in the supporting actress category. Emilia Pérez also got a nine-minute standing ovation at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, with Gomez shedding a few happy tears amidst the applause. The film scooped up several awards, and she snagged Best Actress. Thus, with yet another project in the works, it is just a matter of time before she etches her name in Hollywood history again.
