When Ryan Gosling took on the lead role of Ken in Barbie alongside Margot Robbie, one aspect of his role would end up surprising audiences even more than his character’s eye-catching looks in it. This was the spectacularly delivered musical anthems from the flick, many of which Gosling featured on himself. Well, months after the blockbuster hit came out, the La La Land actor treated fans to an early Christmas present today in the form of an EP.

The best and merriest version of ‘I’m Just Ken’ in ‘KEN THE EP’

While the line-up of the EP carries four diverse versions of the original, ‘I’m Just Ken’, one that deserves a standout mention is titled ‘Merry Kristmas Barbie’. With the signature flair of Ken, Gosling served up a soothing yet quirky melody featuring British DJ, Mark Ronson and a small-scale orchestra serenading alongside the vocals. The visuals from its music video released by Atlantic Records on YouTube are equally mesmerizing.

While the Christmas version of the track would mostly fall into the pop genre, it carries a unique air of nostalgic charm that is bound to touch listeners’ heartstrings. Even when put up against the original single that bagged a Grammy nomination earlier this year, ‘Merry Kristmas Barbie’ manages to outshine all the other compositions. Especially because of Gosling’s dark-hued attire and black sunglasses in its video that presented a new, darker version of Ken. 

When the holiday cheer wears off, the other versions of the soundtrack are bound to get fans grooving as much as the Christmas special. Especially the most upbeat one among them.

Besides the re-released original, the two other versions of ‘I’m Just Ken’ include a somber-toned acoustic rendition and a disco remix unlike any other. While the ‘In My Feelings Acoustic’ track leaves one feeling a bit heavy-hearted, the ‘Purple Disco Machine Remix’ does just the opposite. The funky score certainly takes the prize of being second best after the Christmas special with its groovy beats that scream Ken-ergy. 

Some might say that none of the newly launched tunes in ‘KEN: THE EP’ can surpass the iconicness of the original. After all, it landed the Drive actor on Billboard’s Hot 100 list too! Not to forget how legendary the moment is when Gosling busts out this melody in the fantastical flick. Both the original and ‘Purple Disco Machine Remix’ leave listeners with an urge to get up and dance along to their infectious tunes.
