The melodramatic culinary-focused dramedy, The Bear, may not be the kind of show one associates with Taylor Swift or her music. Yet, in its second season, the show threw everyone for a loop with a bunch of cheeky nods to her. When Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who featured in the most iconic of these Swiftie moments, won an award at the Critics Choice Awards recently, he made sure to thank the 12-time Grammy winner in his speech.

This led to Swift responding with a heart-felt congratulation to him on social media. Now, the actor has detailed the filming of the sequence that started it all.

In the Forks episode, Moss-Bachrach’s Richie scored a trio of passes for his ex-wife and daughter to Swift’s tour after considerable effort. This led to him triumphantly blasting and singing along to the pop sensation’s ‘Love Story’ while driving home. While speaking to The Wrap at the Emmy Awards, Moss-Bachrach confessed all the efforts he had put in to memorize the song’s lyrics to make sure he did “justice” to it.

He would keep looking at its lyrics “between takes to ensure the verses land smooth like butter. Despite not knowing “about them needle drops or anything,” the Girls actor belted its lyrics like a seasoned Swiftie. Since Richie had just found out that his ex-wife had gotten engaged to Frank, Moss-Bachrach had to relay mixed emotions while singing and appearing victorious, a job he pulled off spectacularly.

Besides this scene, the FX series incorporated references to the pop sensation into many other moments, and they did so for a reason.

In 2023, The Eras Tour was running parallel to The Bear’s season 2, which made the show’s references to Swift all the more iconic. The fact that Richie’s daughter, Eva, was a die-hard Swift loyalist lent the series the same hype the 34-year-old was experiencing at the time. Besides Eva’s obsession, which brought up Swift in the third and seventh episodes, another character also donned her merch in episode 6.

The second season which just did a number at the Emmy Awards recently, also showcased Richie reflecting on his past with his ex-wife, Tiffany. In that scene, Tiffany was showcased wearing a blouse with the pop sensation’s face on it. Later, Richie cranking up the volume to the Grammy-winning ‘Fearless’ album’s ‘Love Story’ came as a cherry atop the multi-layered cake of Swift Easter Eggs in the show.
