Stop any millennial on the street and ask them about a pop culture icon and the chances of them not naming Britney Spears are close to zero. So profound was the sway of Spears that even those too young to remember her more notorious years still bow at her altar. Therefore, as the day of casting Britney Spears for the singer's biopic has come around, the iconic question, "Who is it?" once again begs to be asked. But who among Hollywood's darlings will scream "It's Britney, B**ch" remains to be seen.

While fans had put the ball in Sydney Sweeney and Millie Bobby Brown's court, Britney Spears' staff and Emma Roberts happened to be a step ahead.

Ever since it was announced that Universal Pictures has started working on a Britney Spears biopic, it added a millennium to pop culture's life. While the excitement to experience once again her unprecedented highs and disastrous lows was a given, the better brouhaha is centered around the casting. Earlier reports had mostly featured younger Hollywood actresses and even TikTok stars, but Emma Roberts has now emerged as a Cinderella in this stilettos trial with her Cosmopolitan interview by declaring playing Britney Spears her dream role.

Roberts elaborately talked about her love for the songstress and how she even sings Spears to her son. Weighing on Britney Spears' assistant's statement about how she would be a good fit for the role, the actress said that she could not be anymore grateful for such a compliment. Rumor has it she is waiting by the door, and if opportunity does knock, you can bet Roberts will answer, cuff it, and toss it straight into solitary confinement.

While Spears' assistant might believe that Julia Roberts' niece is a shoo-in for the role, the casting despite eagerness on both sides may take a completely different route. Regardless, with a talented crew and treasured material at the helm, the biopic's success is already etched.

Given the outbearing celebrity interest in playing the role of Britney Spears, the better question of who is in charge of making sure that the bizarre screenplay that was her life in front of camera is perfectly translated into a winning biopic was pushed under the rug. Fortunately, that did not deter Universal Pictures from picking the perfect director in the form of  Jon M. Chu.

Celebrated for his work in Crazy Rich Asians, Chu will be working with Marc Platt, one of the geniuses behind La La Land, to ensure that the movie adheres to the high expectations while paying justice to the life of the colorful artist. Given that the official announcement has only come out a month ago, it will be a while before fans get to witness the conclusion of the Britney Spears biopic casting drama, but there seem to be no complaints.
