“History changes, society changes, but people inherently stay the same”: Nicola Coughlan on Society, Marriage, and Being the Gossip Queen of Bridgerton, Lady Whistledown
Nicola Coughlan is an amazing actress. We got to see her comedic side in the hilarious political satire of Derry Girls. But in Bridgerton we see Nicola Coughlan in a totally different avatar than ever before. All those who have watched season one of the show know how big of a secret Nicola carries throughout the whole season.
But in the newest Bridgerton season 2, all things are out in the open. And it was really fun to watch Penelope make her way through it. Recently Nicola talked about the new season and her perception of women in modern society. Let us see what she had to say.

All Bridgerton fans know that in season one it was Nicola’s character Penelope who was spilling all the beans while under the pseudonym of Lady Whistledown.
So while talking about being the gossip queen of the show, Coughlan said that it was really exciting when in season one only she knew that secret and had to keep it safe. But now in season two she really liked how now that everyone knows about the big reveal. And there are a lot of consequences and side stories to be explored.
Well on the topic of exploring. The last episode of season two did reveal a really enormous detail that might be a big hit to the friendship of Eloise Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.
Well no matter what happens on screen Claudia Jessie and Nicola Coughlan remain the best of friends off-screen.
So while talking about her amazing friendship with Claudia, Nicola said that she is really grateful to her co-star because “when you’re playing that dynamic you wish for it to be someone that you really get on with” She then calls Claudia “kind”, “generous” and “lovely.”
Marriages and our society
Bridgerton is a hit Netflix historical drama about love, finding it, and marriages. So while about how we all love to discuss marriages and how important it is to choose the right partner. Nicola makes an amazing point, saying “history changes society changes but people inherently stay the same.”

She goes on to say that even though women nowadays have a better position in society than before and yet they feel a craving for a lot of traditional things which is very “subversive” according to her.
To end the interview when asked about her suitable partner Nicolas jokingly says “Harry Style isn’t available anymore”
We will be seeing more of Nicola when Derry Girls season 3 releases later this year.
