“He Is Very Specific About What He Wants” Toni Collette on Working With Charlie Kaufman
Few screenwriters are working in Hollywood right now to weave original stories like Charlie Kaufman. The guy first started to gain recognition for his screenwriting abilities in the film Being John Malkovich. His directorial debut with Synecdoche, New York, established his excellent director skills. And in 2020, he was back with another min bending thriller, I’m Thinking of Ending Things on Netflix. Starring Toni Collette, Jesse Plemons, and Jessie Buckley
It was Toni Collette’s first time working with the distinguished actor. And she had mixed feelings about working with the director that she shared in an interview.

Toni Collette on Charlie Kaufman’s call
While Toni was shooting for Unbelievable and Knives Out, she received the call saying that Charlie Kaufman wanted to cast her in his new film. And that Charlie is really particular about actors he wants in his movie.
In an interview, Collete said that receiving the call at that time felt totally out of the blue. And she had no period to prepare for the role. The actress described her feelings as “flattered and petrified” in the interview.
However, the actress said all of these feelings were disproved when she met Charlie. She says that Charlie is the “loveliest person.” And a very understanding director on set who, even though “he is very specific about what he wants,” is still down earth and makes his actors feel comfortable.
