Ganglands is a new French series on Netflix, originally named Braqueurs: La série. It is an action crime drama involving thieves, robbery, drug dealers, betrayals, guns, killing, rivalries, love, and family.

Recently, regional language Netflix Originals are raking big on the international platform. Squid Game became a global phenomenon. Another new non-English show to impress audiences is Ganglands. The Netflix Original series is gritty and ambitious, with violence and fury all over the premise.

Directed by Hamid Hlioua and Julien Leclercq, Ganglands Season 1 premiered on September 24, 2021. Each of the six episodes has a runtime of approximately 45 minutes. The show is indeed binge-worthy and can be watched overnight.

The high-octane action scenes right from the first episode are impressive and exciting. Besides premise and cinematography, the cast’s acting is especially getting praises by fans for bringing out the intensity and life in their characters.

Synopsis

The official synopsis of the Netflix series reads, “Mehdi, a qualified robber, and Liana, an apprentice thief, get involved in a turf war between drug dealers, and have to collaborate in order to save their loved ones.”

Mehdi is a veteran skilled thief. His niece Shainez unknowingly gets involved in conflict with a powerful drug-dealing lord. Mehdi assembles his experienced team of robbers and thieves to save his family and fight the deadly gang war.

The story begins with Shainez and Liana, who are lovers. They steal drugs together from drug traffickers and sell them to make money. Not in their knowledge, these petty stealing crimes evolve into a nightmare for them.

The drug lord Saber, to whom all the drugs they steal belong, kidnaps Shainez. The turf becomes a full-fledged gang war. Mehdi and Liana then work together as a duo along with other robbers to save their loved ones.

Season 2 Update

The Ganglands season 1 is only recently released. There is no renewal update from Netflix or the show’s creators. However, since the show ends on a cliff-hanger, we can expect another season.
