Netflix announced that season 2 for its original drama series Firefly Lane is officially underway on this year.

Firefly Lane is a Netflix original American drama created by Maggie Friedman. It’s based on Kristin Hannah’s novel of the same name. The story is about the powerful story of Tully and Kate and the friendship that becomes the bulkhead of their lives.

The series debuted on Netflix in February 2021, when not many series were coming out because of the pandemic. Firefly Lane managed to be a major production for Netflix after its release. It currently has ten episodes on Netflix.

After watching Firefly Lane, both the viewers and the critics praised the series. Therefore, everyone expected Netflix to renew the series for a second season. This did not happen as quickly as we thought it would be. However, Netflix now confirmed the second season for Firefly Lane. We do not have an official announcement about the release date for now. Firefly Lane tells of two women who are different in their nature, but manage to strike a good friendship between them.

One of those women is Tully, who was abandoned by her mother at a young age. She wants to be loved unconditionally, and she tries to do that with meaningless relationships. In the end, she decides to go to New York to achieve fame.

Kate, on the other hand, is a woman who just wants to live an ordinary, peaceful life. After being a wife and a mother, her thoughts change dramatically, and she envies her best friend Tully.

That was the plot of the novel that the series is based on. Here’s Netflix’s description of Firefly Lane:

“Tully and Kate meet as young girls on Firefly Lane and become inseparable best friends through 30 years of ups and downs. Starring Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke.”

The creator of Firefly Lane for Netflix is Maggie Friedman, who earlier worked on series like Dawson’s Creek, Witches of East End, and Related.

Netflix hasn’t announced an official release date for Firefly Lane season 2. Nevertheless, some are reports indicating that the new season will start to air in early 2022. This seems like a feasible date as it’s a year later than the original release, which we commonly see in many Netflix works. However, it may be a little bit optimistic.

When we look at the production process of the first season, we see that it was released a year after the production started. Therefore, we can expect the new season to premiere in summer 2022, provided they can start filming it this summer. Let’s wait and see.
