Netflix has such a huge library that either a film or a TV series releases almost every other day. And you know what comes after the release of the film: It is the reviews. Yesterday marked the release of another Netflix film, Metal Lords. So now that the film is one-day old, let us see what the people are saying about the film and if it is a worthy watch.

What is the film about?

The film is about Hunter and Kevin, two high school friends, joining a heavy metal band and competing in the Battle of the Bands to gain recognition and popularity. Hunter’s unpredictable and furious conduct makes him enemies, eventually creating a rupture with his friend, Kevin. Obviously, finding a third bandmate becomes tough. For both of them, reconciliation requires the production of metal.

Game of Thrones writer D.B. Weiss wrote the film, while Peter Sollett directs the film. An impressive cast of Jaeden Martell, Adrian Greensmith, Isis Hainsworth, Brett Gelman, and Joe Manganiello carry the movie.

The film’s initial release was yesterday and in just hours, the film is getting decent reviews from critics. Let us take a look at some of the reviews.

THR suggests that even though the film does not have a lot to offer, thanks to smooth storytelling by Sollettone will not be bored while watching the film.

Another area where the film strides is that it concentrates on all three main protagonists rather than restricting their roles in propelling the story to its predetermined climax. Although the picture is cinematic comfort food, its makers win our confidence and hit all of the necessary beats along the way.

Moreover, Louder found the depiction of heavy metal in the film as accurate. Their review of the film read, “It’s the capturing of our obsession with this music that makes Metal Lords worthwhile.” Polygon too thinks that Metal Lords got the depiction of music and bridging of differing music genres right, and wrote, “Metal Lords does its most interesting work in the gaps between its leads’ relationships to the genre,” in its review.

We feel anyone who is a fan of the 80’s rock music and was mesmerized by Jack Black’s School of Rock will find Metal Lords to be an entertaining watch, despite the films’ generic content. Moreover, with a 7/10 on IMDb and 62% on Rotten Tomatoes, it is safe to say that Metal Lords is a decent movie.
