Storytelling is a dynamic format. Sometimes it takes filmmakers more than three hours to tell their story, and some need 90 minutes to share their messaging. However, some directors do it in mere 20 minutes. That is how we can explain the newest short film on Netflix, Heart Shot.
Heart Shot plot and cast
Heart Shot is a part of Netflix‘s Emerging Filmmaker Initiative (EFI). Marielle Woods acts as the co-writer and the Director of the film. She previously has worked on big action-driven films such as Baby Driver and John Wick: Chapter 2. Just by reading her resume, one can understand what Heart Shot brings to the table, and it is precisely what it does.

You do not understand how a scene of two women in bed trying to figure out their issues immediately turns into action and thriller like a Bond film.

We cannot explain the film without giving out some spoilers, but in gist, the movie is about two teenage girls, Nikki and Sam, who are in a relationship. However, their life turns upside down when Nikki’s past comes to haunt them.
As the movie is just 19 minutes long, it has a concise cast, with Elena Hueze playing Nikki and Nia Sondaya as Samantha (Sam).
Audience reaction to the movie
Ever since the movie started streaming on Netflix on the 17th of February, critics and fans have been giving it a warm reaction. Here are some tweets of fans wanting more of just 19 minutes of the film.

And as for critics, readystudycut says that the film “seamlessly connecting a backstory to an immediate transition into the film’s reveal in a short time. As soon as Nikki spends the night with Sam, after revealing her toxic upbringing by an abusive mother, the story shifts into a John Wick-style revelation.”
