Space Force debuted on Netflix with its first season in May 2020, and fans are still waiting for season 2. Here&#8217;s everything we know about it.
Space Force is a <a href="https://netflixjunkie.com/category/originals/">Netflix original</a> comedy series that stars Steve Carell. It is about a new branch of the U.S. Army called the Space Force. While the series focuses on the rivalry between the branches, it tells us about the complicated family life of Space Force&#8217;s general Mark Naird (Steve Carell). We also see everything the branch has to go through to please POTUS.
The critics were not in favor of the first season of the series. It currently has an IMDb rating of 6,8 while Metacritic deems it to be 47/100. RottenTomatoes, on the other hand, has a 74% fan rating despite a 39% critic rating. All in all, while the critics do not seem to like Space Force, at least the first season, fans are waiting for season 2.
<h4>Space Force season 2 renewal and production status</h4>
Netflix confirmed in July 2020 that Space Force season 2 was happening. So, the series is officially renewed for a second season.
ProductionWeekly reported that the filming of the second season was due to start on May 3rd and end on June 21st. Despite that, the filming started on May 10th, which tells us that the production is presumably going to end on June 28th.
The crew filmed the first season in Los Angeles. However, they&#8217;re going to film the second season in Vancouver in order to cut costs.
<h4>What can we expect from Space Force season 2?</h4>
The series has a number of loose ends to touch on. Spoilers ahead!
First of all, the first season ended with a huge cliffhanger, as U.S. and Chinese forces destroyed each other&#8217;s bases, and now are facing each other. Meanwhile, General Mark Naird, who disobeyed the Defense Secretary, is on his way back to Space Force HQ with his daughter, his wife who escaped from the jail, and the guard girlfriend of his wife, who helped her escape.
We still do not know the reason why Mark Naird&#8217;s wife Maggie was imprisoned. It seems to be a big crime though, as she was imprisoned for 40 years. Maybe they can touch on that with some flashbacks or chatters.
The relationship between Captain Ali and scientist Dr. Chan was getting closer and closer throughout the second half of the season. Space Force&#8216;s new season is probably going to feature those two is much more intimate.
We have two other relationships that need to be told of, namely Mark &#8211; Kelly, and Erin &#8211; Duncan. Let&#8217;s see how those relationships are going to blossom in the second season.
<h4>What is the release date of Space Force season 2?</h4>
Given the earlier release schedule of Space Force following its production, we can say they&#8217;re probably going to release the second season by the end of 2021. If things go south, we can expect an early 2022 release date for Space Force season 2. There is no official update on that right now.
