Love is Blind a show about love and relationships, was marred by the controversy surrounding Shake’s opinion on love. Even though the season of the pod dating show has concluded long back, people are still not over the DJ’s insulting remarks on Deepti Vempati.
Chris Coelen, the producer of the pod dating show and Netflix’s upcoming The Ultimatum revealed in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter that he isn’t “unhappy” about Shake. He says point-blank, “Look, our duty as producers is to tell the real story — that’s it.” However, he is unhappy that Deepti didn’t have a happy ending although she learned a lot through her experience on the show.
He argues that the show begs the question – is love blind or not? For Shake, it wasn’t. Their love didn’t survive outside the pod bubble.
“Deepti chose Shake — I didn’t choose Shake for her. She chose him, and in that way, it’s very reflective of the real world. And she felt great about that decision when she made it, and obviously, again, the real world ended up showing them that they shouldn’t be together. “
The contestants go through a rigorous vetting process to get an invite to Love is Blind
The team conducts several psychological and background tests before extending an invite to the singles on Love is Blind. But it isn’t an “infallible” process. Although they enter the show with an intention to find love, they often get “transformed” once they enter the pods.
Chris takes a strong stance against evil editing
With 30,000 hours of footage to edit, Chris discloses that he never edited out Shake’s comment about the editing process. Neither did he remove others’ comments on the show’s editing. Chris explains, “My job, ultimately, is to try to convey a truthful experience of their journey.” Shake may have made even nastier comments but since they don’t film them 24*7, Chris wasn’t aware of that. Thus they were never aired.
The social experiment show has been renewed for three more seasons. The third season is set in Dallas and will arrive later this year, until then you can binge the first two seasons.
