New Cyberpunk: Edgerunners trailer gives us the first look at the characters of the anime
In a crazy new trailer, Netflix introduces us to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ six title protagonists — David, Maine, Dorio, Kiwi, Pilar, and Rebecca. The anime will follow David, a homeless boy attempting to make a livelihood in Night City’s body modification-obsessed city. After meeting Lucy, an enigmatic hacker, David decides to become an “edgerunner” — an illicit mercenary-for-hire eager to battle toe-to-toe with the city’s most prominent cyber-psychos and criminals in his quest to become a so-called legend.
The trailer is visually breathtaking
This new trailer, edited by Studio Trigger, packs a dizzying amount of visual stimuli into just under three minutes. In the two-minute video, we see shots of several supporting characters, multiple shootouts, and the series’ apparent “Corpo” antagonist. And a few eye-catching scenes of David utilizing what appears to be the Kerenzikov effect.

Studio Trigger has built a reputation for creating some of anime’s most explosive action sequences throughout the years. While some in the anime community regard Trigger’s output as being more about style than substance, the studio has recently bolstered its catalog with provocative world-building by giving Star Wars a much-needed creative revamp with a few episodes from its Disney+ anthology series, Star Wars: Visions, and through its latest Netflix show, Brand New Animal.
With Promare director Hiroyuki Imaishi at the lead for this limited series anime, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is setting itself up to be another achievement for the animation studio.
