Netflix documentary exposes Britney Spears’ life

The director, Erin Lee Carr, has depicted Britney Spears’ struggle with conservatorship in Britney vs Spears. Erin has assembled a 90 minute-long documentary film filled with stories, details, and sources of what Britney Spears has experienced for the last 13 years. It follows her legal battle to regain her life. The plot develops around Spears’ conservatorship in 2008, controlled by her father Jamie, which was recently ended by the court.

Adnan Ghalib claims, “Britney never had a person she could trust. Not Mom, not Dad.”

From the Netflix documentary, fans get to know how she always lived in fear that her family would barge in and take away money and everything for which she had worked hard throughout her life.

The US pop star filed a lot of petitions to the court to dismiss her father Jamie as her “conservator”. She even charged him with “conservatorship abuse”. After she faced some mental health issues, Britney’s career has been in the hands of her father, along with all of her finances. A court order gave her father control over her estate including other aspects of her life.

Britney Spears had said, “This conservatorship is doing me way more harm than good, I deserve to have a life.”

Spears is still not free from this long battle. In 2021, Britney Spears gave testimony that she has been drugged, forced to perform against her will, and prevented from having more children under the “conservatorship”.

Netflix published a Twitter thread appreciating and celebrating Britney Spears’ life and struggles.

Her story is an example of how the legal system failed her for so many years. Erin Lee Carr’s personal touch to the documentary highlights her grief loud and clear. Britney Vs Spears makes a strong case for itself and how the system failed on so many levels. Her struggle even led to the changing of the law. California lawmakers passed a bill that people in conservatorships have the right to choose their lawyer.
