While chatting with Letterman, Billie Eilish began to move her head, which she said was one of her Tourette’s tics. Tourette Syndrome is a nervous system condition that causes recurrent involuntary tics, such as twitching and vocal outbursts.

“These are things you would never notice if you’re just having a conversation with me,” said the singer.

At moments of excitement, stress, or concern, symptoms such as uncontrollable tics and spontaneous vocal outbursts become more severe. The tics don’t bother her as much when she’s “focused” on tasks like singing or horseback riding, says the ‘Happier Than Ever’ singer.

When Eilish develops a tic, people don’t always behave correctly, according to Eilish.

“The most common way that people react is they laugh because they think I’m trying to be funny. They think I’m ticcing as a funny movie. And so they go, ‘Ha.’ And I’m always left incredibly offended by that. Or they go ‘What? And then I go, I have Tourette’s,” Eilish shares with David Letterman.
