Best Shows You Can Watch If You Liked Alice in Borderland

Japanese sci-fi series Alice in Borderland premiered on Netflix on December 10, 2020, and gathered really positive reviews. From its visuals to its cinematography, editing to use of graphic violence, the series got people talking about itself for a really long time. So we wanted to share other sci-fi series on Netflix that are similar to it if you are looking for a well-crafted one to watch just like Alice in Borderland.

The hit Japanese science-fiction-horror series is based on the same-named manga series by Hara Aso. And not long after, Netflix renewed the series for a second season as well. As it blends elements of the shows such The Purge, Sword Art Online, Alice in Borderland has also been compared to the films Battle Royale and Cube. And it sure has managed to produce something gripping and well-crafted considering its positive critics.

Alice in Borderland follows a group of allies trapped in an abandoned Tokyo, where they are forced to participate in dangerous games, the type and difficulty of which are determined by playing cards. The game aims for its players to receive “visas” that are extended the more they play so that they can survive. And if not, the ones whose visas expire, get executed.

So, if you are the type that loves a good thrill of survival, here are other sci-fi shows like Alice in Borderland on Netflix you might also enjoy watching.

Here’s another dystopian which gives the thrill with lots of action just like Alice in Borderland. Starting with a film in 2013, the franchise continued to its way producing four more installment,s and also there is a fifth one as the final film on its way, scheduled to be released on July 9, 2021. On the other side, The Purge franchise also takes its place on the small screen for a 2 season show to deliver a story of its interesting premise, as well.

It centers on a gigantic, mechanized cubical structure of unknown purpose and origin, made up of numerous smaller cubical rooms, in which most or all of the principal characters inexplicably awaken in. So people who suddenly wake in it try to find their way out through the rooms of the cube, which some of the rooms are “safe”, while others are equipped with deadly booby traps such as flamethrowers and razorwire.

Sword Art Online is arguable one of the highly-anticipated and biggest anime series of the world with including 86+ episodes, 1 OVA Series, 6 TV installments, 2 Movies, and 10 specials. And this science fantasy anime series sets on a game world like Alice in Borderland. So, if you also like a good anime and still haven’t watch this cult one. So, this Korean sci-fi series also offers you a rollercoaster ride filled with excitement along with engrossing mysteries.

Without any questions asked, Sense8 is one of the most well-crafted and brilliant series all over the world which also offers you much more things then sci-fi. From its locations to its plot, its attractive characters to the naive but also strong relations of theirs, this sci-fi series takes its audience’s breath with everything it involves like Alice in Borderlands does, but in a much sexier way. So, you should definitely watch it if you still haven’t. You will see that you won’t be able to move anywhere until you realize you’ve already binge-watched and finished it.

At first, Travelers might see you as a cheesy sci-fi that a group of people trying to save the world and all. But don’t let this fool you! What makes this series similar to Alice in Borderland is not that it is also sci-fi. This series offers you an exciting experience with its well-crafted plot and believable, complex characters.

This Netflix’s first Brazilian show doesn’t only share a dystopian future with Alice in Borderland but also shares a similar premise to Hunger Games. So, it might come not original at all. But still, it’s really worth giving it a try with offering good mystery and sci-fi elements. It is set in an unspecified future in an impoverished place called “Inland,” where 20-year-old individuals live with a purpose. They aim to complete “The Process” in order to reach out to the affluence of the distant “Offshore” society. And at the end of the process, only 3% of them will have that opportunity.

A Colony is another series promising a lot more than sci-fi. With its detailed and weaved characters, it leans into its character drama and touches onto lots of familial issues as well along with the all exciting adventures they go through. The story is set in the near future when LA gets occupied. It follows a family as they are forced to make difficult decisions in order to survive in all these tensions.

W: Two Worlds invites you its creative and promising worlds that actually sounds really familiar to Alice in Borderland. But there isn’t a war in a world for survive. There is a clash between two worlds that one of them is the real one and other is an alternate universe inside a web-toon. So, this Korean drama calls you to follow its interesting characters as they dive into their whole unique adventures with a storyline that can never be predictable. If you like k-dramas and sci-fi, Two Worlds is one of the best one that takes you into a really exciting ride all the way through.

You want to watch a good sci-fi show, but also don’t want to stick and spend your whole time on it as well? Well, this miniseries created by Anthony Salter might be the one for us. It includes 7 episodes that go fluently that you can barely notice the time as it makes you wonder and ask questions most of the time. It centers on a mystery of ten people waking up on a tropical island beach, which they don’t know how and where they came, and even who they are. So as their survival and struggle of solving that puzzle start, they also start to separate into groups because of differing priorities and strong personalities.

So it takes on a different place like Alice in Borderland along with similar survivals and all. But still, it shows you a whole different plot in a much shorter time.

Quirin Berg and Max Wiedemann, the producers of ‘Dark‘ has come to Netflix with producing another sci-fi series. Philip Koch is the creator along with co-writing the series with Jana Burbach and Benjamin Seiler. The series has an environment and color palette close to Dark, actually. So it wouldn’t be wrong if we say that Germany’s dense forest cover has done its duty in terms of cinematography, again. However, Tribes of Europa gives the impression that it will focus on action like Alice in Borderland rather than a dark dystopia as Dark did.

Germans are really good at what they are doing, especially with sci-fi shows, right? Biohackers is one of them created by Christian Ditter. It got so much attention and acclaimed that it was renewed for a second season a week after its release. It involves science, mystery, technology, thrill, and much more. The story follows a medical student at the University of Freiburg Mia, who is also very interested in biohacking technology and becomes involved in the world of illegal genetic experimentation. On the other hand, she also tries to investigate the cause of her brother’s death along the way. What could be better than an avenge story involved with science?
