Demon Slayer was a ringer when it dropped its first season in 2019. An anime series with a revenge trope becoming a cult favorite is not rare. But going on to become a global favorite and becoming the face of the genre definitely is. From the layered plot to cinematically pleasing frames, many cards favored the Haruo Sotozaki movie.
Demon Slayer: Mugen Train is a lone warrior
The anime series follows Tanjiro Komado as he seeks revenge for his dead family. This element, the revenge arc, guaranteed anime fans to hop in huge numbers, especially after the impact of the first season. However, the reason it excelled, not only in Asian countries but also in the West, is the arguable subplot of the series. Komado would burn the world to see the killers of his loved ones die in pain. However, he would go to the moon and back to make his sister turn back into a human (from a demon). The revenge plot intertwined with the familial love plot packed just the right punch to make it a global success.
Written by Ufotable, the plot easily entices intrigue in the viewers. Another card that worked tremendously in the movie’s favor was that it was a stand-alone.
Western viewers who were alien to the anime’s first season could enjoy the movie as much as those who had watched the first season. Especially as theaters opened back after the pandemic, cinemagoers itched to watch an all-rounder movie. And Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, with its humor, thriller, horror, and emotional elements, is just that.

The 2D animation carried the old Anime magic while at the same time adding more jazz to the drawings.
