One Piece and Naruto are undoubtedly among the most beloved and impactful manga and anime series ever created. These two phenomenal franchises have amassed a global fanbase, captivated by their captivating narratives, iconic characters, and profound themes. However, it is worth noting that Shiryu of the Rain, a prominent member of the Blackbeard Pirates in One Piece, draws inspiration from Zabuza Momochi—one of the first antagonists introduced in Naruto.

Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, had taken direct inspiration from Naruto. As such there are a lot of traits of Shiryu that are directly or indirectly influenced by Naruto’s Zabuza.

Shiryu and Zabuza share noticeable resemblances, particularly in their physical features. They both possess elongated faces, broad noses, plump lips, and squared-off chins. Spiked locks that partially cover their eyes characterize their quite similar hairstyles. These two individuals also prefer donning colored trench coats while carrying swords on their backs.

Another notable likeness between Shiryu and Zabuza lies in their personalities. Both exhibit a sadistic nature, finding delight in mercilessly eliminating their adversaries. Furthermore, they possess an ambitious drive—a quality showcased through their acts of betrayal against former employers as they aligned themselves with more formidable allies.

The duo also share similarities when it comes to their abilities. They are both skilled swordsmen who handle their large blades with grace and precision. Additionally, they possess expertise in water-based techniques owing to their origins in Kirigakure, the village of mist. A connection that helps them hone their skills.

Furthermore, Shiryu and Zabuza can both eliminate their foes quietly while hiding in misty surroundings. Shiryu has consumed the Suke Suke no Mi Devil Fruit granting him the power to turn invisible along with anything he touches. On the other hand, Zabuza employs the Hiding in Mist Technique by generating a dense fog that conceals his presence while relying on his hearing to sense his enemy’s movements.
