One Piece live-action has been getting much hype, even the maker has to pacify its fans. Recreating a classic manga, show, game, or story into a live-action show is indeed a challenge. Makers are required to woo the existing fans while impressing the new ones. One of the top criticism that these shows face is not sticking to their source material, which takes away from the originality.

Now Netflix has been exploring several genres, including the One Piece manga. The manga has fans around the world, protective of its material. A lot of them look at the live-action idea with skepticism, even after a trailer is out. Responding to the criticism is its creator Eiichiro Oda.

Eiichiro Oda confirms and reveals changes in the One Piece live-action series

It may be important to stick to source material when recreating something. But when your inspiration is anime, changes are made to make things more realistic. One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda took to Twitter to put fans’ criticism to rest and explained why some changes were necessary. He admired the protective fans for being outspoken, and in fact, enjoys their complaints. He feels that the criticism comes from a place of love for the series. “This character is missing or that scene is omitted, or this bit is different from the manga,” they pointed to him.

For the creator, some scenes were not adapted exactly because they did not fit in well in the real world. For several of these reasons, some scenes were re-shot after production. The intention is to not make the show look unnatural when fans actually see it with live actors.

Netflix has also been generous with these ideas, spending a big chunk of money for making each episode. Here is what we know about the upcoming series so far.

An insight into the live-action show

The show has apparently broken records for costing $18 million per episode. Its first season will tell the tale of adventures through eight episodes which will be released together on Netflix. Iñaki Godoy will play the lead role of Monkey D. Luffy, with Emily Rudd, Mackenyu, Jacob Gibson, playing the supporting characters.

Its creator keeps fans in the loop by responding to doubts and giving updates as the release date nears. One Piece live-action will land on 31st August 2023.
