‘One Piece’ Actress Drove Her Parents ”sick” of This Iconic Anime
The first chapter of One Piece was released in the Weekly Shōnen Jump back on 22nd July 1997. By the time the anime premiered in 1999, the fandom had doubled in size. By the time it was announced that Netflix was taking on the anime to create a live-action adaptation, it had tripled. After the OTT Mogul dropped its highly anticipated live-action anime series, the fandom fortunately quadrupled. This had all to do with the unique screenplay, unparalleled budget, and, most importantly, the devotion of the cast.
A key factor that worked in favor of Netflix for its One Piece live-action adaptation is that the cast itself was a huge anime fan. And while they have waxed poetic about Eiichiro Oda’s work of art, Emily Rudd was obsessed to great length with another anime during her teenage years.

Emily Rudd, who plays the role of Nami in the One Piece live-action series, notably down to the last morsel, has risen to the ranks of being the face of the anime fandom. Apart from her role as a key member of the Straw Hat Pirates, which Rudd altered her entire personality to secure, the actress has confessed to being obsessed with another anime. While speaking to Netflix in August, the One Piece actress revealed she was obsessed with Sailor Moon.
Rudd has unleashed on fans a plethora of anime recommendations, but one she feels very strongly about is Sailor Moon. This was conveyed by the actress as she confessed that she made her parents watch it enough times to drive them “sick.” While the incident dates back to the earlier years of her life, it seems that the anime really had a huge impact on Emily Rudd.
The One Piece actress speaks of Sailor Moon as if it were the gospel. And given her wonderful personality and performance, fans are curious as to what the anime entails that it had Emily Rudd so smitten.

If you ask the One Piece fame, Emily Rudd, about what Sailor Moon was, she would say it was about powerful women who can do anything if her statement to Netflix was anything to go by. And the actual plot actually does not differ much from Rudd’s description. Sailor Moon was released in 1992 and followed the journey of Usagi Tsukino, an ordinary schoolgirl with an extraordinary destiny.
Tsukino transforms into the graceful Sailor Moon and assembles a diverse team of Sailor Guardians to protect the world from darkness. The anime was marketed mostly towards young girls, but managed to win the hearts of others as well. While a live action series did release in Japan in 2003, owing to the lackluster plot and performances, it was easily forgotten. Perhaps, now that it has broken out of its shell, Netflix can try its hand at a Sailor Moon live action starring Emily Rudd.
