One Piece has had a lot of buzz surrounding it. Not only did Netflix take on the mammoth task of turning the manga-based TV series into a live adaptation, but the weight of the huge fandom too. Set to release on August 31, the manga’s creator Eiichiro Oda set forth his two demands via the series’ star Matt Owens. And now, just a week before its release, the streaming giant addressed the growing demands and cleared its intention with the action and comedy thriller.
In a detailed message typed out in Japanese, Netflix Japan cleared the air amidst the growing restlessness among fans. It took to Twitter and explained the main concern – the exactness of carrying the television series and making it a live-action series. In the tweet titled ‘From Netflix to Eiichiro Oda’, they laid out their message.
To Eiichiro Oda:
– A 1:1 re-enactment is impossible.
– Live-action adaptation isn't about replication. It's expression.
– We're not at all satisfied yet, either.
– We want to rewrite the history of live-action adaptations.
– We have two goals. To not betray the fans. And to have… https://t.co/rKaM0dB9uP— ONE PIECE(ワンピース) Netflix (@onepiecenetflix) August 19, 2023

The possibility of a 1:1 enactment was not possible on Netflix’s pages. Moreover, they believed that live adaptation did not translate into replication, but was a form of expression. In an attempt to “rewrite the history of live adaptations,” they promised to satisfy the fans and bring on-board more new ones.
This message came amidst the backdrop of the growing demands of the fans. After the trailer was released, the fandom was not very happy.
Although relatively old at this point, Oda’s message relayed by Owens only added fuel to the already growing fire under Netflix’s latest statement.
One Piece fandom cannot catch one moment of peace as live-action premiere edges closer
The debate surrounding the one-on-one reenactment got interesting views. If the makers replicated the series to the T, it would come off as unadventurous and “uncanny.” Apart from a few changes, watching the exact same thing play in a live-action format was not exactly appetizing. On the other hand, others in the fandom believed that 1:1 reenactment was very much possible.
A 1:1 is possible if they want to do it. The problem would be too expensive make. I'm a long-time fan. I have mostly been disappointed with American anime adaptations in the US. I just hope they don't butcher it like Cowboy Bebop.

Time scale isn't really part of a medium change. They are not going to make a live action that just had 14 years of training ala claymore or try to fit the dbz freiza 5 minutes until namek explodes into those 5 minutes. Panels time skip, live actions time skip. They mean content

It took into consideration minor changes to the undoable aspects, but it would still prove to do the anime justice. And others thought the expression was only a loophole to make up for the fact that the trailer wasn’t exactly loved.

It's very reassuring to see Netflix is skipping staight to damage control, calling out the original autor publicly and saying they aren't satisfied with what they are delivering.

Fans also pointed out the years of injustice done to live actions and how deviation from the source ruined the essence of animes. After all, this is not the first time that Netflix is taking on the mantel of bringing a cherished anime to live action.
Have you guys learned nothing from the netflix adaption meme?
Every single live action that deviates feom the source material completely and utterly fails
Just stick to slice of life anime adaptations at this point… pic.twitter.com/EaResEcWIy

Let's go! If any series can break that anime-live-action curse, it's One Piece! pic.twitter.com/C1g9pLwqjp

It is also important to note that the two mediums are vastly different. While manga to anime makes it easier owing to the usage of hand-drawn artwork, it is quite impossible to carry the replica in live actions. Hoping for the series to reign as one of the best attempts at live-action, the fandom has exactly ten days to get their geeky hats on.
