Manga, a world that was once limited to the confines of Japan, has now become mainstream. A huge credit for this goes to the trend of manga adaptations, which have introduced the world to this Japanese storytelling format, especially the shonen genre of manga that includes popular series like One Piece, Dragon Ball, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and more. And before 2024 closes its curtains, all the manga fans will be blessed with yet another big-screen adaptation, My Hero Academia: You’re Next.

Almost a year after its announcement, the movie finally has a release date in place for all the American manga lovers.

For residents of Japan, the fourth installment will debut on August 2nd. In the meantime, there is something else that the original creator of My Hero Academia has in store to keep fans occupied.

Just a few months before My Hero Academia: You're Next was announced, creator Kōhei Horikoshi gave a shonen recommendation for fans. He praised Dragon and Chameleon by Ryo Ishiyama, which was highlighted as a blurb in the first volume of the manga to attract readers. Horikoshi wrote, "The manga about a mangaka is written with blood, bones, body, and spirit". Horikoshi also showered Ishiyama with praises for his writing and storytelling.

In response, Ishiyama took to X to thank Horikoshi for his kind words about the manga. “Kōhei Horikoshi wrote a recommendation for the [intro]. I'm super happy,” said the Dragon and Chameleon creator, filled with pride. As per Ishiyama, this comment from Horikoshi was something he would treasure forever. Coming from the genius himself, before My Hero Academia: You’re Next hits the screen in October this year, it would be a great pastime to check out his recommended manga.
