As ‘One Piece’ Live Adaptation Nears Its Worldwide Release, Creator Eiichiro Oda Gets Honest About the Upcoming Series on Netflix

One Piece is one of the most popular mangas around the world. Fans are no strangers to the legacy the show left behind in the world of anime. Owing to the show’s humongous popularity, Netflix too decided to come up with a live-action show based on the anime. Ever since the streamer announced the release of the show, anime fans are extremely hyped to see the series. However, recently, One Piece creator recently came up with a few problems the live-action adaptation could face.

Live-action adaptations have always been a topic of contention among the anime community. While a few fans tend to praise it, others usually dismiss live-action adaptations. Not long ago, Netflix released a few images of the upcoming series. While the picture surely has raised excitement among the fans, One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda has doubts about the upcoming series. And Oda addressed the problems recently as he released a detailed letter about the live-action adaptation on Netflix.

In his letter, Oda went to great lengths as he spoke about how Netflix is developing the series. The creator spoke about the past few months he has been working with Tomorrow Studios and Netflix. He added how, even though they tend to understand the characters, the cultural barrier between the two is prevalent. Furthermore, Oda spoke about the difference in skill sets, ways of working, and even aims. He even revealed that the differences at times are frustrating for both parties.

Surprising as it sounds, Oda was unsure about foreign production as he wrote in his letter, “Is foreign production even possible? However, later on in the letter, the One Piece boss seemed optimistic about the upcoming series. He confessed how both the studio and the streamer are working tirelessly to deliver the perfect show. Oda confessed that this series is his last hope to bring One Piece into the world.

When will One Piece premier worldwide?

One Piece’s live-action adaptation has left anime fans restless to see the show grace our screens. Previously, the streamer announced that the show will premiere worldwide in 2023. However, as of late, much to the fans’ disappointment, we do not have a release date.

In his letter, Oda revealed that even though the plans are to release the show in 2023, Netflix promised not releasing the series until he is satisfied. Meanwhile, the first season will have eight episodes. Apart from Oda, actress Emily Rudd previously shed some light on the series as well.
