From friends to foe, Vivi’s arc was an influential and emotional one. Initially joining with the alias of Miss Wednesday for Baroque Works led by the Warlord Crocodile, Vivi took on the pirates as their enemy. However, soon enough, she revealed her true identity as the Princess of Alabasta, who sought help for her kingdom. Additionally, she was not an ally of Crocodile but rather looking to one-up him. The warlord looked to overthrow her father, King Cobra, and take over Alabasta. Following her initial reveal and Crocodile’s defeat at the hands of the Straw Hat Pirates, fans expected her journey to continue further on.

The Princess, however, stayed back to protect her island nation and parted ways with Straw Hat Pirates. Furthermore, a recent manga from May 2023 titled Nefertari Cobra Dies revealed the true motives of her staying back. Right before Imu, the Ruler of the World Government, killed him, Vivi’s father revealed to her that she carried the Will of D. It was the same mysterious force that bound characters such as Monkey D. Luffy and united them against the tyranny of the World Government. Thus, since there could not be two Will of D bearers together, Vivi bid adieu to Luffy and the crew.
