Altered Carbon premiered on Netflix back in 2018 with whopping 10 episodes. Based on Richard K. Morgan‘s novel, the series depicted a cyberpunk dystopian future where the rich got to be immortal through sleeve technology and the poor had to survive against all odds.

The series starred Joel Kinnaman, who played an ex-soldier tasked to solve a murder. “Altered Carbon” series cast also included James Purefoy, Martha Higareda, Dichen Lachman, and many more. Although it received positive reviews throughout two seasons, Altered Carbon did not get a renewal for another season.

Unfortunately, Netflix cancelled Altered Carbon on August 26, 2020. Considering the halted productions of other series, the popular streaming platform decided not to release Altered Carbon season 3.

The lead actor in the first season was Joel Kinnaman as Takeshi Kovacs. After the events in the first season, the protagonist changed its sleeve and Anthony Mackie became the new Takeshi Kovacs.

Season 2 brought up questions about the new leading actor for season 3. But unfortunately, the curiosities regarding the cast and the synopsis will stay unraveled as the show will not continue.

The story of Kovacs had a lot to say if Netflix had not cancelled the third season. Altered Carbon got renewal for the second season back in 2018. Along with the leading actor, another name filled the showrunner position. Alison Schapker took the position as the showrunner and Laeta Kalogridis who was the former showrunner, became the producer.

Netflix also released an anime spin-off called Altered Carbon: Resleeved to further expand the world of Altered Carbon. The anime depicted the cyberpunk world of Altered Carbon and the events that happened 250 years ago.

Although it is a great watch for those who love watching stories about dystopias where people used cybernetics to cheat death, it could not make the effect Netflix had planned. Though you should watch if you were expecting Altered Carbon season 3.
