Good news for all the folks out there who routinely consume teen shows and novels! Netflix has finally announced that the much-anticipated show, Heartstopper will be arriving on the platform sometime in spring.

The British LGBTQ series follows two young boys, “kind-hearted” Charlie and “thoughtful” rugby player Nick as they meet in an all-boys grammar school. What starts out as a friendship turns into a blossoming romance. They overcame all the hurdles in their way to find their most “authentic selves” and a way to be together.

Heartstopper’s official synopsis on Netflix reads:

“Boy meets boy. Boys become friends. Boys fall in love. When gentle Charlie and rugby-loving Nick meet at secondary school, they quickly discover that their unlikely friendship is blossoming into an unexpected romance. Charlie, Nick, and their circle of friends must navigate the ever-relatable journey of self-discovery and acceptance, supporting each other as they learn to find their most authentic selves.”

Alice Oseman’s webcomic

The heartwarming story about two young impressionable boys is based on the uber-popular webcomic, Heartstopper. In 2016 Alice started creating the webcomic for Tumblr and it garnered huge likes. The comic popularity led to Alice publishing the book. The webcomic serves as a prequel to Alice’s novel 2014 Solitaire. Nick and Charlie were just secondary characters having a stable relationship in the novel. Despite the name of the comic, the content inside the pages is heavy–homophobia, bullying, and mental disorders. The Netflix show is sure to interweave these themes within the sugary romance.

The cast
