Ahead of the DCU Reboot, ‘Suicide Squad’ Director David Ayer Backs James Gunn’s “charge”
In the ever-evolving landscape of the DCU, anticipation has been at a peek ever since the world found out that James Gunn would be at the helm of the plans for a reboot. While a lot of his decisions have not been easy pills for fans to swallow, it seems as though he has one other director on his side. The 2016 Suicide Squad director, David Ayer, recently set the record straight with fans about his faith in the 57-year-old.
While Ayer promised the world a director’s cut of the superhero film, it seems to be getting further delayed. This made fans point their virtual arrows at Gunn once again. However, much like the superheroes he directs, David Ayer has been suave in defending James Gunn’s honor.

This year, James Gunn broke a lot of fans’ hearts by removing a lot of the Justice League actors from their roles. However, it seems as though some fans are more focused on getting David Ayer’s director’s cut instead. While they took to social media to voice their opinion, one comment found itself getting attention from none other than the director himself. He defended Gunn on X (formerly Twitter).
He said that the Guardians of the Galaxy director was “the bravest man in Hollywood” as he was “taking charge of the hardest ship to Captain in this industry.” After sharing his opinion on the director, Ayer added, “Everyone, please chill, as he realized things were getting out of hand. While the 55-year-old voiced his support for the director, he had a good reason for the same.
Just months ago, David Ayer had added fuel to the speculation about his Suicide Squad cut with his update.

Back in August, David Ayer sat down for an interview with Variety to talk about his Suicide Squad cut. He hyped up fans by saying that James Gunn had told him that it “would have its time to be shared.” While that may seem ominous to most, the director had no reason to not trust him. After all, the fate of the DC universe ultimately rests in his hands now.
So far, Gunn has not made any revelations about the cut. Instead, he has been more focused on his plans for his upcoming film, Superman: Legacy with David Corenswet. While the world may not want another actor taking up Henry Cavill’s iconic role, the 6 footer has dazzled the world with some uncanny similarities to their fan-favorite superhero.
