Oscar Winner, Kathryn Bigelow, is all set to step into Netflix for the next film. We can be rest assured that, if Bigelow is taking the chance to direct any project, that film will surely make an impression in the industry.

She will be directing Aurora, a thriller, based on the novel of the same name by David Koepp, on the streaming giant. The Oscar-winning filmmaker hasn’t made a movie since 2017’s race drama, Detroit. Her fans were wondering if she is leaving her career in the industry? But with her new film announcement, it feels like a sigh of relief for the fans.

Kathryn Bigelow won the Academy Awards for The Hurt Locker. She became the first woman to win the Best Director statuette. In 2013, another thriller by her, Zero Dark Thirty, explores the hunt for terrorist Osama bin Laden and earned her a Best Picture nomination. Before her big break, her work includes Near Dark, Point Break, and Strange Days. So, it’s safe to say, Bigelow finds her next movie as the Oscar winner. In a conversation with screenwriter Scott Frank, he expresses, “There’s a reason David Koepp is the most successful screenwriter of all time. It’s because he’s one of the greatest storytellers of all time. Aurora is up there with his best: scary, funny, and thought-provoking.”

He will write the screenplay for the film. Producers like Greg Shapiro and Gavin Polone, will join Kathryn Bigelow, who works with the director from Stir of Echoes and Secret Window. According to the sources of The Hollywood Reporter, the project has a budget of $100 million. But, unfortunately, Netflix didn’t comment on it.

What is Aurora about?

Netflix has officially announced the film on Twitter, which says the film is about, “follows characters who are coping with the collapse of the social order, set against a catastrophic worldwide power crisis.

Aurora develops around a divorced single mother, who tries to save her teenage son and her estranged brother, a wealthy Silicon Valley CEO, from a solar storm. The solar storm almost knocks out the whole of humanity. But, with the help of her estranged brother, he already has a luxurious bunker in the desert for just such a disaster. This film will focus on the loss of humanity. And also narrate their personal story and will have drama, emotion, pure love, and also an apocalyptic event.
